Wash less frequently
This helps preserve the overall quality of the garment. This is not an excuse to skip laundry day. If it smells or has stains then treat it, but do it right.
Close zippers and other fasteners before washing
This prevents snagging and breakage. You can also loosely tie strings to avoid knotting.
Avoid the dryer
The dryer is convenient but it can damage your clothes and decrease elasticity. Line drying/air drying is the safest choice for your clothes. If you absolutely need to use the dryer try to use the delicate setting.
Use mesh bags
Mesh bags are good for delicate clothes but if you're unsure just go ahead and use one. It's better to be safe than sorry.
Turn clothes inside out
This is especially important for darks, clothes with screen print, and external embellishments.
Cleaning Velcro
There are two sides to refer to when talking about velcro. There's the hook side which is the rough portion and there's the loop side which is the soft/fuzzy side.
Use a stiff brush to clean debris from the hook portion and make sure the hook portion is covered during the wash.
